This chapter has introduced some useful concepts and applied them to the problem of determining the sample size. A population  characteristic, such as the attitude of symphony season ticketholders, is to be estimatecTby the sample. A sample statistic such as the average attitude of a sample of season ticketholders, is used to estimate the population characteristic.
