Hot Tips to Avoid Export Control Violations
• Determine whether you must have a validated export license. When in doubt, contact the Exporter's Services Staff, Office of Export Administration for assistance (202-377-4811).
• Fully describe commodities or technical data on export shipping documents.
• Use the applicable destination-control statement on commercial invoices, air waybills, and bills of lading, as required by Section 386.6 of the Export Administration Regulations.
• Avoid overshipments by maintaining an accurate account of the quantity and value of goods shipped against a validated export license.
• Be mindful of the expiration date on validated export licenses to avoid shipments after the applicable license has expired.
• Enter the applicable validated export license number or general license symbol on the Shipper's Export Declaration (SED).
• Make certain that shipping documents clearly identify the exporter, intermediate consignee, and ultimate consignee.
• Mail completed form ITA-622P by private courier express to: Office of Export Administration, Room 1099, United States Department of Commerce, 14th & Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20230.
• Attach self-addressed, stamped postcard to front of ITA 622P stating: "This number is United States Department of Commerce case number of export license application (applicant's reference number). This number is not a license number nor is it authorization to export."
Mail this case number back to applicant (with case number assigned) within 10 days of receipt of ITA 622P in Washington, D.C.
• Attach a private courier envelope/bill for the return of your ITA-622P.
